Shift the focus of curriculum development to the learner

A learner centered curriculum is based on the theoretical framework of constructivism. It shifts the focus from the teacher to the learner, giving students increasing responsibility for their own learning. Learners develop skills in critical thinking, self-directed learning, and metacognition which establishes a life-long learning mindset. An authentic curriculum includes elements that promote learners to direct their own learning, construct meaning from the material, and conduct self-assessment.

In this webinar we discuss the educational psychology of an authentic curriculum and provide a toolbox for educators to incorporate these elements into their current curriculum.

Institutional Success Team

Leading this session are two members of the OnlineMedEd Institutional Success team. At OnlineMedEd, Courtney, Neal, and their teammates contribute subject matter expertise around curriculum design, faculty and student assessment, and help solve institutional challenges around administration and accreditation. Made up of peer educators, this team works directly with administration and faculty at our institutional partners with a focus on instructional design and implementation of best practices for hybrid learning.
